Biography

Sophia Perez is a filmmaker born and raised in the Midwest. In her writing and films, she is drawn to the complexities of identity and the absurdity of everyday life. She makes light of the dark—or the light a bit darker.

In May of 2024, Sophia graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Screenwriting Arts and minors in Cinema, Spanish, and Translation for Global Society.

During her undergraduate years, she acted in over 14 student projects and produced 2 short films. Her senior year, she co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in a feature-length comedy entitled The Womenists.
